Community Band From Ayrshire To Play At Four Day Ulster-Scots Festival in Cairncastle, County Antrim

The
members of The Whitlees Community Band from Ardrossan in
Ayrshire
have been
invited over to County Antrim to play at The Cairncastle
Four-Day
Ulster – Scots Festival, which runs from Thursday the
24th until Sunday the 27th of
July.
Although
the band, which was only formed last year, have played at various events
in their
own area, this will be their first visit to Ulster .
All of the
members are really looking forward to playing at the festival and renewing acquaintances with
their good friends, The Grouse Beaters Band from County Antrim who played in
Ardrossan in November 2007 and the last weekend in May this year.
The members
would like to thank the organisers of The Cairncastle Festival for inviting them
to play at the festival.
The
line-up of The Whitlees Community Band comprises of
Frances
Lynch: vocals/guitar, Helen Grier: vocals, Jackie Irvine:
bodhran,
Mark
Dunlop: vocals/guitar, Eamon Lennon: accordion, Bill Armstrong:
accordion.
Billy Irvine: harmonica, Tom Hamilton: vocals/guitar, Dominic Dunne:
vocals/guitar/mandolin, Gareth McGhee: guitar/vocals
and David Lennox:
vocals.
Meanwhile final preparations are being made for
the 8th annual festival which is situated in the picturesque village of
Cairncastle, with events being held in a large Marquee at
7.30pm each evening.
Once again the special guest for the
weekend is Tony Collins from Dunoon in the west coast of Scotland. During the four days there will be various folk bands and musicians
appearing such as The Hounds of Ulster, Chanter, a Co. Down based folk band,
Session Beat from Co.Fermanagh, The Ulster-Scots Folk Orchestra and a special
appearance by the Younger Yins (Ulster-Scots Youth Folk Group) poets Charlie
Gillen and Willie Drennan and making their first appearance
will be the recently formed Cairncastle Highland Dance School
On Saturday afternoon there will be an Ulster-Scots Bus Tour hosted by
Willie Drennan with traditional music taking in the picturesque East Antrim
Coast and Braid Valley.
On Saturday evening there will be a traditional Soiree
with 40 musicians performing from N.Ireland,Southern Ireland and
Scotland.
Sunday afternoon will feature an Ulster Scots Praise Service in the
Marquee.
An Ulster Scots Summer School will take place each day of the
Festival.
On Friday and Saturday night from 5pm - 7pm Joyce's Catering will be
serving a two course meal costing £6 in the Orange Hall, anyone wishing to book
